Platform
Student Achievement & Wellbeing
Schools must prioritize strong academics and the foundational skills students need to thrive. Bruce will work to:
Maintain merit-based admissions for specialized programs like IB
Ensure every board-level decision is measured against its impact on student achievement and wellbeing
Support special education students with the resources, staffing and individualized programming they need to succeed
Setting clear, measurable standards for academic outcomes across all schools
Safe Schools
Every student deserves a learning environment that is safe, respectful, and free from distraction. Bruce will work to:
Restrictions on cell phones so students can focus on the learning that matters
Strengthen bullying prevention programs and ensure consistent enforcement across all schools
Keep classrooms focused on learning by keeping divisive geopolitical conflicts out of schools
Promote respect, civility, and inclusion among students and staff
Ensure clear protocols are in place to address safety concerns quickly and transparently, working with our police partners
Listening to Parents
Parents are essential partners in their children's education. Bruce will work to:
Return every parent phone call and email in a timely, respectful manner
Hold regular community meetings and listening sessions across the ward
Make trustee communication clear and accessible
Responsible Spending
The YRDSB must be transparent, accountable and disciplined with its $1.8 billion budget. Bruce will:
Streamline administrative layers so more funding flows directly to classrooms, teachers, and students
Strengthen trustee oversight and responsible decision-making
Ensure teaching and guest speaker presentations are age-appropriate and provide real value
