Bruce brings extensive education leadership experience to his advocacy for Aurora & Stouffville families.

He served on the school board from 2021 to 2022, worked for three Ontario Ministers of Education and led a national education charity.

Bruce is a proud graduate of Dr. G.W. Williams S.S. and Western University.

Ensure Safe Schools

Every student deserves a safe, respectful environment focused on learning. Bruce will work to:

End the police ban and restore the School Resource Officer program
Work with York Regional Police to keep drugs and weapons out of schools
Fight against antisemitism and all forms of hate
Strengthen bullying prevention and fight for consistent enforcement
Oppose drug injection sites near schools
Work with municipalities to improve road safety near schools
Keep politics and divisive foreign conflicts out of classrooms
Promote unity, fly the Canadian flag and preserve O Canada

Prioritize Student Achievement

Schools should prioritize strong academics and the skills students need to succeed. Bruce will work to:

Set clear, measurable standards for academic outcomes
Measure board decisions against student achievement and well-being
Hire teachers based on merit and qualifications
Support special education and IEP students with appropriate staffing and individualized support
Reduce the number of split-grade classes
Protect merit-based admissions for specialized programs such as IB, AP, arts and athletics - no random lotteries
Strengthen financial literacy, mental health skills and life skills

More Funding to Classrooms

YRDSB must be accountable and disciplined with its $1.7 billion budget. Bruce will work to:

Streamline administration so more funding reaches classrooms
Hire more teachers and educational assistants
Prioritize repairs to aging schools and essential infrastructure
Install air conditioning to prevent heat-related illness
Improve bus reliability and transportation eligibility
Strengthen trustee oversight and financial audits

Listen to Parents

Parents are essential partners in their children's education. Bruce will:

Respond promptly to parent calls and emails
Hold regular community meetings with parents, students and residents
Support affordable community access to school facilities with lower rental fees

About Bruce

Bruce worked in the office of Ontario’s Minister of Education, where he advised on policy, communications and issues management. He served on the York Region District School Board as student trustee from 2021 to 2022, delivering student leadership policy reforms & securing new mental health funding.

Bruce was Executive Director for the Federation of Canadian Secondary Students, a national Canadian education charity. He led the organization’s programming and advocacy, testifying at the Ontario Legislative Assembly on education reform legislation.

Bruce is a public appointee to an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant Review Team and sits on the boards of two Canadian charities. His past community leadership includes serving on the Advocacy Committee for Strides Toronto and as a representative on the Minister’s Advisory Council for Special Education.

Bruce completed his Bachelor of Arts at Western University and is currently a JD candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. He is fluently trilingual in English, French and Mandarin. He holds the CIPP/C designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a Certificate in Education Law from OsgoodePD and a Google IT Professional Certificate.
